Private Viewing: Monday 9th January, 6.30-9pm
This unique exhibition by documentary and food photographer Tim Pryse-Hawkins explores the day to day life of Wilson’s grammar school in Wallington.
Wilson’s moved to Wallington from Camberwell in 1975 and has flourished into one of the top state funded boys selective schools in the UK last year. In 1975 it was an under achieving land locked school, which was too small for its site, and about to be turned into a comprehensive school by the then current Wilson Govt.
Thirty-six years later Wilson’s operates at the highest levels of academic achievement as well as a offering pupils an unparalleled range of extracurricular activities from bee keeping to rocketry, as well as the more traditional “Grammar school” activities such as debating, drama, chess and combined cadet force. Sport features prominently, with several pupils competing at a county and international level. As the new coalition
prepares to re-introduce Academies and Grammar school type schools, Wilson’s stands as a praxis of education practice.
The exhibition features work of Tim Pryse- Hawkins who has a strong connection with this school, as he has been working on the support team at Wilson’s since 2006.
Originally from Wales, Tim is a chef and photographer based in Carshalton Beeches. A long time member of the Camera Club What Ever Happened To Wilson’s is his second exhibit following Food and Faces in 2010.
